CEIU SCHOLARSHIP

This year’s Scholarship will be awarded to up to two (2) applicants who are in the first year of recognized post-secondary program during the 2024-2025 academic year. Applicants will be assessed on their response to one of two questions: 1. What role can unions play in the process of “truth and reconciliation”? You can consider the question from the perspective of the union and its membership, the union and the employer, the union and the political process, the union and Indigenous communities, or any other interpretation. 2. How do all workers benefit when the union centers anti-racism in its work? Or what does the union risk by not addressing racism in the workplace and in the union? Your answer can explore one or both issues. The deadline for submissions is December 4, 2024. Submission can be made by email to oninfo@ceiu-seic.ca. Please ensure the candidate reviews the form instructions in full and return a completed form with the submission. Do not hesitate to contact oninfo@ceiu-seic.ca if you require any accommodation, assistance or have any questions regarding the application.

Attention Front end Members:
Workload Fatigue can take several forms and has has been legally recognized as a psychological workplace hazard.
What is it?
-Being constantly aware that work tasks are unending and sometimes relentless, with a continuous need to accomplish more,
-Being preoccupied with negative thoughts and worries about having made mistakes and their potential consequences,
-Facing work situations where performance is publicly evaluated while trying to meet unrealistic targets, leading to pressure from colleagues’ perceptions and the fear of appearing incompetent or unproductive,
-Struggling to cope with delivering work below preferred standards, which can be especially challenging for those with perfectionistic tendencies or a strong achievement orientation,
-Worrying about not doing enough to meet client needs, not being helpful enough, not achieving desired results or not meeting expectations,
-Having to make decisions without all the necessary information,-Adopting changes, such as new work processes or responsibilities, without feeling adequately supported, informed, or trained to implement the changes effectively,
-Feeling pressured to achieve more, with fewer resources or to cut corners to meet requirements, which can be particularly stressful when it conflicts with our personal beliefs or values, or when a lack of thoroughness is believed to increase risks of negative outcomes, and
-Experiencing a lack of control over work factors and outcomes or being compelled to perform tasks unwillingly.
If you have experienced these feelings at work, and would like to learn more about what the CEIU Front End Outreach Committee is doing about this issue, please send an email to localceiu581@gmail.com
