Happy Holidays

Wishing our members and the world Joy and Peace and all the best for 2024. Happy holidays.

The cheques are in the mail

As a follow up to our most recent October 25, 2023 notification: With the November 30, 2023 deadline for top up requests passed, the final top up cheques are now in the mail.

Check your mailboxes early next week if you hadn’t already received yours back in August or September. My guess is they should arrive Tuesday or Wednesday based on standard delivery times.

Thank you to all members that enabled us to get a local top up to them by filling out the required form and getting us the required pay stub, which let us do the math and determine a number to put on their cheque.

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada

https://www.ceiu-seic.ca/december_6_ceiu_remembers

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. In 1991, the Parliament of Canada established this day of mourning and remembrance to mark the anniversary of the murders of 14 female engineering students at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1989 in an act of gender-based violence. The 14 women who were killed in this brutal act were Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault and Annie Turcotte. This day is an opportunity to reflect on violence against women in our society and to remember those who have died as a result of gender-based violence. It is a day on which communities and individuals can come together, speak out, and take action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.https://women-gender-equality.canada.ca/en/commemorations-celebrations/16-days/national-day-remembrance.html
