2018 Labour Day

Greetings,

This year’s Labour Day will focus on the Canadian Labour Congress’ (CLC) campaign to pressure the federal government to create a universal and public pharmacare program.

Currently, nearly one third of working Canadians do not have an employer-funded prescription drug plan. And over half of Canadians have said they are afraid they will not be able to afford their prescription medication in the future.

A national, universal and public prescription plan for everyone would be a monumental achievement for the labour movement that would benefit all Canadians. That’s why this year’s theme for Labour Day is “Pharmacare: Let’s get it right.”

Canada is the only developed country in the world with a universal health care program that does not include universal prescription drug coverage. This Labour Day let’s continue our work to make our country better by demanding the government create a national pharmacare program.

In Solidarity,
Sharon DeSousa,
PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President
